Island Estates Women’s Club

Volume XLIV No. 4        December 2022

Carlouel Yacht Club

1091 Eldorado Ave, Clearwater Beach, FL

Wednesday December 14, 2022 —11:00 AM to 2:00 PM

President’s Message:

To the sweet ladies of IEWC,

I hope you are enjoying the change in the weather here in Florida.  Hurricane Nicole made her late arrival in November (yuck!)  We have been very fortunate this hurricane season.  I pray for those affected by Ian and Nicole.  Now we are in the full-blown Holiday season.  Halloween decorations were not even down when the retailers had the Christmas decorations up.  I wish we could celebrate and enjoy one holiday at a time.

Ladies, I wish to thank you and applaud you for your generosity for our October fundraiser.  We raised over $11,000 to benefit the Mammography Voucher Program.  As a breast cancer survivor, as I know several of you are, this cause is near and dear to my heart.

This month our focus is changed to those young people who need clothing to help boost their self-esteem when going to school.  Clothes To Kids allows in-need school-aged children and young adults to “shop” for their own school clothes without charge.  They can shop twice a year for a week’s worth of school clothes.

We did such a fabulous job on the Breast Cancer Fundraiser, let’s step-up once again for the youngsters that need clothes for school.  I volunteer in the sorting room at the Clearwater Clothes To Kids, and let me tell you the shelves are bare in certain areas.  The most desperately needed items are listed below.  Even if you can’t attend the December Luncheon at Carlouel, if you can, please make a monetary donation on our website.  It is $65.00 to supply a week’s worth of clothing for one child.  The link to donate is located at the bottom of this page.

I hope to see many of you at our December Field Trip/5 O’clock Somewhere strolling through Largo Central Park for the lovely Holiday Lights and some Holiday Cheer at Finley’s Irish Pub afterward and also at the Holiday Luncheon at the beautifully decorated Carlouel Yacht Club.

I wish you all the happiest of holidays and a healthy, prosperous New Year.

With much love and respect,

Joan Landreth, IEWC President

Program Chair—December Luncheon—Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas.  Megan DiBlasi, Development Director from Clothes To Kids will be joining us at Carlouel Yacht Club on Wednesday, December 14th.  Our musical entertainment will be provided by The International Chorale.

From Your Reservation Chair Karin Stewart

Send Luncheon Reservations and your check to IEWC c/o Mrs. Karin Stewart, 225 Windward Island, Clearwater, FL  33767.  The deadline for reservations is 12 noon on Wednesday, December 7th.  There is a white locked mailbox at my home, 225 Windward Island that you can easily drop off your reservation and check.  Due to the security at 31 Island Way, there will no longer be a drop box for IEWC.

For those that prefer to pay by credit card here is the link:  https://www.iatspayments.com/saaura/PAA7388E244B78D987

Ladies, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at:  727-452-5167.  We cannot refund money for canceled reservations after the deadline because of our commitment to the facility providing our program.

A Note from Jennifer Jacobs, Executive Director of Clothes To Kids, Inc.

Thank you IEWC!  You make clothes possible for so many in our community!  We are honored you have once again selected Clothes To Kids to partner with.  Every donation from IEWC helps provide new and quality used clothing to low-income or in crisis school-age children – a week’s worth of clothes, free of charge, yes you!

Children and their families right here in our community struggle to provide the basic necessities and they are worried, even panicked, about going to school.  Especially at the holidays, families are stretched to the end of their resources to provide shelter, food and medical care for their children.  Many times, clothing is just out of reach.

IEWC, you help us help the kids who need us.  Thank you for giving the gift of clothes this season!  Clothing items most requested – elementary school-age boy’s and girl’s shirts and pants in sizes 6 – 16.

Clothing items most helpful to us at this time are as listed below (items can be new or gently used):

  • Youth Boy’s Shirts—Medium, large and X Large

  • Youth Boy’s Pants—4 to 16

  • Youth Boy’s Shorts—sizes 4 to 16

  • Youth Boy’s Shoes—size 9 to 6

  • Youth Girl’s Tops—size Small to XL

  • Youth Girl’s Pants—size 4 to 16

  • Youth Girl’s Shorts—size 4 to 16

  • Youth Girl’s Shoes—size 10 to5

  • Men’s Shoes—size 7 to 12

Financial donations (cash, checks, gift cards from Target and Walmart) are always appreciated and used to buy much needed clothing and shoes.  We are so proud of our three stores and hope you will come and visit us.  Our Clearwater Store is located at 1059 Hercules Avenue.  Stop in, we’d love to give you a tour!

Membership Report

We are now 194 members strong!  We welcome all of the new members to our Club.

There has been some confusion about when Membership fees are due.  Our Club year begins June 1st and runs through May 31st.  Therefore, Annual Membership fees are due in June and payments made after April 1st will be applied to the upcoming year.  Of course, new members and renewals are accepted anytime.  In order for your name, address and phone number to be published in the Yearbook, dues must be received by August 1st.

Dues paid April 1st or after will be applied to the 2023-2024.  Any payments prior to that apply toward the current 2022-2023 year.  You will receive an email letting you know when your renewal fees are due.

If you have any questions, please contact Patti Jucha at pattijucha@yahoo.com or iewcmembership@gmail.com
