Island Estates Woman’s Club – Brief History

Founded in 1961 by Hazel Crown, the Island Estates Woman’s Club began as a humble Garden Club, quickly evolving into a vibrant community of women dedicated to friendship and service. By 1963, the club had adopted its current name, and by 1965, it had outgrown home meetings, moving to local restaurants and expanding its activities to include bowling, bridge, tennis, and crafts. Over the years, the club has created a lasting impact through initiatives like fashion shows, cookbooks, and a scholarship program for female students. With a commitment to local charities, the club has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for organizations such as Hospice and Clothes to Kids. Embracing technology, the club has enhanced member engagement through a website and social media, while also offering exciting activities like cruises and field trips. By 2019, membership soared to over 200, and the club proudly awarded more than $33,000 in scholarships, continuing its legacy of community support and camaraderie.
