Island Estates Women’s Club

Volume XLV No. 2                                                                                                                                                                               October 2023

President’s Message:

Dearest Ladies,

Welcome to Autumn in Florida!  It still feels like summer, but hopefully it will begin to cool down soon!  This month is our “Pink Is Beautiful” Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness.  Our proceeds will, as for many years, benefit the Mammography Voucher Program of Pinellas County.  As a survivor of breast cancer, this worthwhile cause is near and dear to my heart.  Join us on Tuesday, October 10th to contribute to fighting breast cancer.

We also have our popular 5 O’clock Somewhere on October 12th at The Whistle Stop in Safety Harbor and our Field Trip is on October 5th.  This is a Pub Crawl through the Dunedin and North area.  If you’ve been before, you know how much fun we have on the Trolley and at the stops it makes.

Included as attachments to this newsletter are the October Breast Cancer Fundraiser Registration Form, Breast Cancer Awareness Flyer and your copy of the Yearbook in PDF form.  Those of you requiring printed PDF’s will be receiving them soon.  I am mailing them next week.

I hope you will join us at some or all of our fun activities we have planned for you ladies.

          With much love and respect,

Joan Landreth, IEWC President

Fundraiser Update-Patti Jucha, Fundraising Co-Chair

Believe it or not, the 15th Annual “Pink Is Beautiful” Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser is next month!  Join us on Tuesday, October 10th at Island Way Grill.  Shop Till You Drop and raise money in support of the Mammography Voucher Program (MVP) of Pinellas County.  The MVP provides free mammograms to women who cannot afford them and pays for treatment of breast cancer if detected.  Sherrl Fry, Grant Administrator for MVP, will be our special guest for the luncheon.

We are pleased to announce our current Elite Sponsors: Already Gone Travel, Bay Star Restaurant Group, Brown Boxer, Cassi & Company, Clear Sky Restaurants, Clearwater Yacht Club, Clearwater Marine Aquarium, GlenZ DJ and Karaoke, Innisbrook, Lala’s, Michelle Chenault/Beach Island Group, PRP Wine, Shephard’s Beach Resort and Wyndham Grand.

WHAT TO EXPECT:  We will still have the popular Silent Auction, Pick A Prize and Ribbon Tree. The Ribbon Tree will look a little different than previous years.  It has become more challenging to obtain Tree prizes as many restaurants and retailers are dealing with higher costs, so there will be fewer prizes and the cost will increase.  Please understand that this decision was not an easy one, but it is necessary. Keep in mind that this is for Charity and the goal is to raise money for this worthwhile cause.   Tree prizes will be $15 for a $20 gift card and $40 for a $50 gift card.  This is still at least a 20% discount and again, please keep in mind that it is for Charity.

We have great prizes including hotel stays, a Cruise, gift cards from local restaurants, retailers, hair and nail salons, attractions, theater tickets and more.  We are still gathering prizes, but stay tuned for a complete list of what will be available in the next few weeks.

This year we are adding two new ways to shop:  Home Goods Sale – support the Cause by purchasing homemade baked goods and other treats made by our members.  If you want to donate something, please email Patti at pattijucha@yahoo.com

Tumblers – Just added!  Custom insulated tumblers in FUN colors with the IEWC logo

You will also be able to make cash donations.  If you can’t attend, think about donating to this important cause by donating on the website at https://www.islandestateswomensclub.com/  .  Donations are tax deductible.

If you live in a Condo, please print and post the attached flyer on your bulletin board.  You do not have to be a member to come to the luncheon, and the more that come, the more money we raise for MVP.

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Ladies, we need to replenish our prize wrapping supplies.  If anyone has any of the following items, or wants to purchase them as a donation, please email me (pattijucha@yahoo.com) and let me know: Ribbon – Tissue - Plastic storage totes - Filling for bottom of baskets (amazon stuffing, newspaper, etc.), small baskets

If you want to get involved, we are still looking for people to help decorate our prizes and staff the Prize stations the day of the luncheon.  It’s a great way to meet and get to know other members.  Interested?  Email, call or text me at pattijucha@yahoo.com or 661-477-1741.

Hope to see you there in Pink!

NEW EVENTS TO SUPPORT MVP AND BREAST CANCER AWARENESS:  Thanks to those who ate at PDQ earlier this week.  We didn’t have a lot of time to promote it, but we still made $100.  Every little bit helps!

Next up:

Wednesday, October 4th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, BJ Restaurant and Brewhouse is donating 20% of all food and non-alcoholic beverages to our effort.  Please grab a bite to eat that evening.

Tuesday, October 1st – Saturday, October 7th: Allori Blow Dry Bar is donating 10% of all services.  In addition to hair and makeup, they offer IV Therapy.  Call 727-333-7035 and make your appointment now, and be sure to tell them you are supporting the IEWC Pink Is Beautiful Fundraiser.  Thanks to Lori Lenhart, owner and IEWC Club member.

Please support these businesses who support us and see how easy it is to benefit the club by just eating dinner or getting your hair done!!
